Sub menus for the PK-4 keyer People often have trouble with the sub menus, mainly, how are they entered ? They are entered in the first item of the main menu: For mem + dah, the first item is TU (tune) To enter the mem + dah sub menu, just press and release dah after hearing TU You'll then hear TO (timeout), the first item of the mem + dah sub menu Similarly for the mem menu, the first item is BE (Beacon mode) To enter the mem sub menu, just press and release dah after hearing BE You'll then hear SS (sidetone set), the first item of the mem sub menu Here is an example procedure for turning off the sidetone: 1) Enter the mem + dah menu (press and hold mem, then press and release dah, keep holding mem until you hear the first menu item: TU 2) release mem 3) press and release dah to enter the sub menu, you should hear TO 4) then press and release mem 4 times to get to ST 5) press and release dit to turn off the sidetone Why have sub menus ? They provide the user with shorter menus, it's quicker to get to the last item in the menu. Since the BE and TU menu items initiate an action rather than setting an option, they only use one paddle, the other paddle isn't really needed. So the other paddle can be used to enter the sub menu and since these two items (BE and TU) are first in their respective menus the sub menu effectively cuts the length of the menu in half.
